Gov. Makinde Declares Wednesday a Public Holiday for Islamic New Year

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially declared that Wednesday, July 19, 2023, will be a public holiday in the state. The holiday is in celebration of the Islamic New Year, also known as Hijrah 1445.

 

The announcement was made through a circular issued on Tuesday by Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi, the Chief of Staff to the Governor.

 

As per the earlier declaration by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakr, Wednesday has been designated as the first day of Muharram 1445AH, marking the beginning of the Islamic New Year.

Governor Makinde conveyed his congratulations to the Muslim community on the occasion of the New Year and encouraged them to take this opportunity to offer prayers for the peace, harmony, and prosperity of both the state and the entire nation.
