Fully Funded Graduate Student Positions in Canada

The Mer lab ( https://merlab.github.io/) at the University of Ottawa, Canada has multiple fully funded graduate (MSc and Ph.D.) student positions available. We are looking for highly motivated and skilled individuals to work in the areas of bioinformatics, machine learning, genomic data analysis, and personalized medicine.

 

We are located at the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology (www.uottawa.ca/facultymedicine/biochemistry-microbiology-immunology) and part of the Ottawa-Carleton Joint
Bioinformatics Program (www.bioinformatics.uottawa.ca). Students with degrees in computer science (or related fields) will also have the opportunity to enroll in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science graduate program (www.uottawa.ca/facultyengineering/school-electrical-engineering-computer-science).

 

Responsibilities:

Projects will focus on multi-omics data analysis using machine learning, stem cell related
single cell data analysis, biomarker discovery for cancer personalized medicine, and the
development of bioinformatics tools. For detailed information about our research please visit

Qualifications:

– Good knowledge of programming (preferably R or Python)
– Skills in genomics data analysis (e.g. RNAseq, WGS, WES) and/or machine learning
– Basic understanding of molecular biology, genomics, and omics profiling techniques
– Previous degree in bioinformatics, computer science or related disciplines will be a plus
– Good GPA
– Self-motivated and driven individual
– Excellent communication and writing skills in English. For international applicants, a valid
English language test score may be required (the minimum required score for TOEFL iBT is
100 and IELTS is 7).
