The BBC is an international multimedia broadcaster on radio, TV, online and social networks with a weekly global audience of 320 million. As part of an historic multi-million pound expansion of BBC Africa, the BBC World Service is introducing a wide range of new and exciting language and regional content to serve African and global audiences.

 

We are recruiting to fill the following positions below:

 

1.) Senior Journalist (Video Producer)

Job Title: Senior Journalist (Video Producer)

Location: Abuja
Contract type: Continuing / Permanent
Band: D

Job Purpose

  •  We are looking for a talented and motivated video producer to be based in Abuja, Nigeria to pitch, develop ideas, deploy, produce and reversion digital video content independently with editorial guidance or collaboratively with others.
  • This position will sit alongside digital, production and journalism roles that will generate fresh, innovative and engaging stories for multiple platforms.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • This role primarily initiates, gathers and produces material for news, current affairs and general programming for digital platforms. You will be expected to routinely self-shoot and edit complete packages for use across multiple platforms.
  • Ensure content is accurate and informative whilst striving for creative and imaginative output, and adhere to the best standards of video production.
  • To record video interviews and other types of original content as required and work with graphics and visual journalism teams to produce creative and original sequences.
  • Use analytics to inform video story choices and ensure the content is delivered in the right format(s).

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

  • Bilingual language expertise is preferred: A full command and up to date knowledge of a key World Service regional language as first (or equivalent) language as well as complete comprehension of written and spoken English and the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to originate, plan, develop and produce engaging digital content on complex political and social issues that will appeal to African and global audiences, particularly among women and young people.
  • Experience of digital newsgathering, filming and filing video from the field, and proven ability to confidently use editing and production tools as required. A knowledge of outside broadcast techniques would be an advantage.
  • A good presence on camera and experience of social media lives would be an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of data analytics and experience of using it to shape the content and meet the needs of different audience groups.
  • Track record of encouraging, guiding and assisting colleagues who are new and unfamiliar with video and digital.

  • We are looking for a talented and motivated digital producer to research, storyboard, report, present, write, translate, edit and adapt business and economic news stories or programme material for various audiences.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • The Senior Journalist (Digital Producer) will generate new and creative treatments for digital and social platforms, particularly in text and video.
  • Present engagingly for news and current affairs websites and social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok.
  • Use editorial judgement, creativity and flair to make original and compelling visual content and also produce interesting graphics sequences.
  • Use knowledge of social and other trends to make informed decisions on upcoming stories.

  • This role will provide quality and high impact sport news reporting and analysis across a range of BBC News outlets and platforms.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • To compile and present engaging content offering new perspectives and deeper exploration of sport news stories, interviews, profiles and analysis
  • Produce a wide range of creative ideas to engage audiences across different linear and digital platforms
  • Identify, develop and package original stories and other content for various BBC platforms
  • Build and maintain regional contacts and provide timely warning of developing stories and trends.

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

  • Bilingual language expertise is essential: A full command and up to date knowledge of a key world Service regional language as first (or equivalent) language as well as complete comprehension of written and spoken English and the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Expert knowledge of a variety of sports and issues impacting the industry and sport personalities on the continent, an enthusiasm for the topic
  • A record of live reporting as well as ability to tell stories in engaging style and pace
  • This role will involve regional travel on short notice.

  • This role is meant to provide quality and high impact health news reporting and analysis across a range of BBC News outlets and platforms.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • To compile and present engaging content offering new perspectives and deeper exploration of Health stories, interviews, profiles and digital content
  • Produce a wide range of creative ideas to engage audiences across different linear and digital platforms
