Popular music artistes, David Adeleke, aka Davido; Tiwatope Savage, aka Tiwa Savage; and Innocent Idibia, aka 2Baba, were among entertainers that thrilled guests at BUDX Lagos, a World Cup kick-off concert held at the Eko Convention Centre, Lagos, on Saturday, July 30, 2022.
At the event sponsored by Budweiser, a football fan, Chukwunonso Ejiofor, won an all-expense paid trip to watch two matches at the forthcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The Marketing Director, International Breweries Plc, Tolulope Adedeji, stated that the event was a convergence of passionate football and music fans.
She said, “Football and music are passion points for consumers of Budweiser. For the first time, the company facilitated the visit of two football legends— Brazil’s Roberto Carlos, and England’s John Terry— to Nigeria in 2021 when they played a match with a select Nigerian Professional Football League team.”
Other artistes who performed at the event were Whitemoney, Asake, Wande Coal, Teni, Fave, Reekado Banks and 2baba. DJ Spinall was also on hand to churn out hit songs to the delight of attendees.
Meanwhile, one of the highlights of the event was when a male fan ran to the stage to hug Tiwa Savage while she was performing. The excited fan was able to bypass Tiwa’s bouncers who were with her on the stage. Though her security aides tried to send him away, Tiwa asked that he be left alone, as she reciprocated the hug.
A certified crowd-pleaser, Davido, took the event to another level as he stormed the stage to the adulation of fans. One of the fans even went a step further as he raised a cardboard sign with the inscription, ‘Imole de’, a slogan used as a campaign mantra for his uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke, who is the Governor-elect of Osun State.
The singer took his fans on a nostalgic ride as he performed some of his old and new songs, including ‘Fall’ and ‘Jowo’.
