Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are often debated as the GOAT’s of football

While some may say that Lionel Messi’s status has been confirmed with new GOAT acronym on new Paris Saint-Germain shirt – Cristiano Ronaldo fans have quickly hit back.

PSG unveiled their new official home kit ahead of the 2022/23 campaign and Messi will not be the only one repping the GOAT abbreviation on the kit, following a new sponsorship deal. GOAT is a well known brand for making trainers, clothing and accessories, while it is coincidentally an acronym for greatest of all-time.

Although Kylian Mbappe, Marquinhos, Fresnel Kimpembe, Achraf Hakimi and Marco Verratti also posed with the new shirt, there would only be one man that would catch the attention of many – much to the dislike of the Ronaldo faithful.

One fan tweeted: “Ronaldo on a PSG jersey,” before another continued: “Ronaldo is the GOAT.”

A third responded: “Repping his idol CR7.” While another added: “They’re paying tributes to Ronaldo.”

A further comment read: “Why is Cristiano on the shirt?” and another agreed: “Ronaldo is still better.”

“Respect for having Cristiano Ronaldo’s name on it,” added another, before another wrote: “CR7 is the new sponsor of PSG?”

“This is the real GOAT! CR7,” another fan commented, while another questioned: “Why are they advertising him as one, he ain’t.”

Messi will enter his second season at Parc des Princes after ending his 21-year connection with Barcelona following a £25m switch to Paris. Last season Messi scored six goals in 26 appearances, while contributing to 15 assists.
