The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Thursday inaugurated 76 housing units in Gombe State.

The housing units comprise 48 units of two-bedroom bungalows, 24 units of three-bedroom bungalows, and four units of one- bedroom bungalows.

The President, who was represented by Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, performed the
inauguration of housing projects,under the National Housing Programme Phase One in Gombe State.

Our correspondent reports that the contract was initially awarded in 2016 at a total cost of N727,455,959.59, while the infrastructure was awarded in May 2017 at a total cost of N431,984,902.04

However, N293,465,804.04 was voted for
road, drains, and asphalt finishing, N74,931,623.00 for electricity supply and installation of 500kva transformers, and 63,587,475.00 for motorised boreholes.

Buhari revealed that the government has paid a certain percentage on behalf of beneficiaries, while urging them to use the rest to get allocation.

He added, “This land was obtained by the federal government in 2016. What we are here to commission is in the first phase.

He revealed that the houses are affordable following the effort of the Federal Government to subsidise the cost.

On his part, Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Jatau, commended the Federal Government for the initiative.
